José Mario Martín-Flores received a B.A. and an M.A. degree in Educational Administration in Guadalajara, Mexico. He received an M.A. and a Ph.D. in Spanish from the University of California Irvine.

His research interest mainly focuses on Mexican and border cultures, Literature of Baja California, 19th-century Mexican narratives, a new historical novel on Latin America.

José Mario’s current book addresses the Mexican novel of the last diaspora. He is the author of five volumes of poetry published in Argentina, Spain, Mexico, and the U.S. and two more collections of poetry and short stories in print. He is the faculty leader of the Spanish abroad program in Merida.
