Options for Fulfilling Your Language Requirement
- AP credit from high school automatically clears your language requirement
- 4 years of high school Spanish fulfills the language requirement
- Completing SPAN 201 with D- or better (ENROLL IN SPAN 201 IF YOU HAVE 3 YEARS OF HIGH
SCHOOL SPANISH)
High School Equivalencies
- 2 years of Spanish in high school is equivalent to SPAN 101 → Enroll in SPAN 102
- 3 years of Spanish in high school is equivalent to SPAN 101 + SPAN 102 → Enroll in SPAN 201
- 4 years of Spanish in high school fulfills the language requirement → Enroll in SPAN 202 or SPAN 282
AP Exam in High School
- A score of 3 on the AP Language and Culture exam → Enroll in SPAN 211
- A score of 4 on the AP Language and Culture exam → Enroll in SPAN 202 and 212
- A score of 5 on the AP Language and Culture exam → Enroll in SPAN 212
Spanish Proficiency Exam
SDSU Testing Services offers a language proficiency exam that may be taken by any SDSU Liberal Arts and Sciences major to satisfy the foreign language requirement. This exam is graded on a pass/fail basis to clear the language requirement, no units are earned for passing the exam.
